  • IPAT invites you to participate in the 2018 IPAT COMPETITION.
exhibitors in the COMPETITION.
  • IPAT’S COMPETITION will be reviewed and judged by JUDGES
    from the USA, Europe, South America and Asia.  Each judge will
    score each individual piece independently.
  • Score totals will determine the Ribbon category.  All  Ribbon
    Winners of GOLD,  SILVER and BRONZE will be featured in the
    Porcelain Artist IPAT Magazine and at the Convention GALA
    BANQUET.
  • The THEME of the presented work will be the ARTIST’S CHOICE.

COMPETITION RULES
  1. A current IPAT membership card or copy is required.
  2. Original artwork only.  No class or study work of any kind will be
    allowed.  No copying of another artist’s work, DECALS,
    purchased understructure or guidelines will be permitted.          
    NOTE – If necessary, the judges may ask questions.  Please be
    ready to provide reference/source materials if requested.
  3. NO glued pieces or attached, UNFIRED materials, with the
    exception of glued pedestals.
  4. Artwork must have been completed within the last two (2) years
  5. Artwork must not have been entered into any other exhibit, contest
    or posted on social media.
  6. Entrants must sign an Artist Release Form allowing photos of
    their work to be published in the Porcelain Artist IPAT magazine.
  7. All decisions by the Competition Committee are final.
  8. Entrant’s piece must be presented to the Competition Chairman
    or her committee members no later than WEDNESDAY, August,
    15, 2018, at 1:00 pm.
  9. All Competition pieces must be picked up 2:00 pm on
    SATURDAY, August 18, 2018.  NO art, stands, frames, printed
    information, etc., will be released without presentation of the
    official release form.
    NOTE – No early pickup will be allowed without prior permission
    from the Competition/Exhibit Chairman.

Items submitted for Competition are subject to be RULES of
COMPETITION.  Failure to meet the competition rules are grounds for
being disqualified.  All decisions by the IPAT Competition Committee are
final.

JUDGING SYSTEM
COMPOSITION/DESIGN ........................................................
How the elements and principles of art are used to fit the subject matter.

OVERALL UNITY (Artwork/piece)...........................................
How the entire finished piece is unified through repetition of color,
value, line, shape/form, etc.

TECHNICAL SKILL/BRUSH CONTROL..............................
Level of technical skill and brush control evident on the piece.

CLARITY OF EXPRESSION ...................................................
How the elements and principles of art are used for expressive purposes
(mood, emotion, shapes, colors and values).

CONCEPT.................................................................................
Traditional Art: Suitability of design selected for the piece. Other Art:
How the artist has used subject matter, intent, and design in a way
that is not considered a traditional style.

COMPLEXITY ............................................................................
Designs which contain more work, time, thought, planning or expertise.

FIRING .......................................................................................
Is the piece fired at correct temperatures to produce an optimum effect
for the art work.

Entrant’s piece, entry form and fee must be presented to the between
8:00 am and the deadline of 1:00 pm.


2018 IPAT BIENNIAL CONVENTION
EXHIBITION GUIDELINES

Two (2) pieces per IPAT member may be exhibited, with the
exception of Mixed Media. For the new category of Mixed Media,
members may exhibit up to five (5) pieces.

If you enter a piece into competition, it will count as one of
your 2 or 5 pieces in the exhibit.

All kiln-fired art shall be exhibited by current
IPAT members in good standing.
RESTRICTIONS
  1. Any artwork containing nudity must be approved by the Exhibit
    Committee.
  2. Artwork must be completed since the 2016 IPAT Biennial
    Convention.
  3. Artwork must not have been entered into ANY other exhibit prior
    to the IPAT Convention.
  4. Artwork may not be posted on the web for any reason prior to the
    IPAT Convention.
  5. Entrant agrees to allow photos of their piece(s) to be printed in
    the Porcelain Artist magazine and the IPAT Convention DVD.
  6. If a piece is delivered by a friend, they must have your IPAT
    Membership number.
Entrant’s piece(s) and entry form must be presented to the Exhibit
Committee Chairman Wednesday, August 19, 2018,
between 8:00 am and the deadline of 1:00 pm.
